Well, it has been a week (and we’re nearly there)! Between client calls, recipe testing (more on that below), and trying to convince myself that the heat is actually enjoyable, I have been keeping very busy over here.
If you are pregnant right now, first of all, you are absolutely incredible. Growing a human in the middle of summer is no small feat, and if your ankles are puffing up like little bread rolls by 3pm, please know you are not alone. I see you.
This week I wanted to share a few things that have been on my mind and in my kitchen:
- My current obsession: a ginger and lime electrolyte slushie that is genuinely life-changing on a hot day (recipe below!)
- Some practical, evidence-informed tips for keeping cool and reducing swelling during pregnancy
- A little nudge to check out my new Instagram series, Make Ahead Breakfasts, if you haven’t already
As always, I hope something here makes your week a little easier, a little nourishing and maybe even a little delicious. Let’s get into it.

Cool Down Tips
- Stay hydrated (beyond water): Electrolytes are your best friend in pregnancy. Add coconut water, a pinch of salt, or a squeeze of citrus to boost absorption (see above recipe!)
- Elevate those ankles: Even 20 minutes with your feet raised above heart level can make a big difference to swelling by the end of the day.(This is actually my fave thing to do rn)
- Cool your pulse points: Apply a cold damp cloth to your wrists, neck, or ankles for instant relief. It works faster than you think!
- Eat light & often: Heavy meals raise your core temperature. Opt for small, frequent meals rich in water-dense foods like cucumber, melon, and berries.
